Warmies Needed? Local Mom Wraps Your Family in Soft, Recycled Wool

“It’s rain pant and boots day,” I sang this morning as I dressed my son for Kindergarten this morning. This get-up is standard issue for his Monday march through the farm at his school.  However, today marks the first time this year he’ll trek through fields while the sky sends down showers.

“The kids still play and work outside? In the rain?” you might wonder. Our Waldorf School’s answer is a resounding, “Yes!”  The children thrive with good doses of daily outside time…and have you ever met a child who didn’t love to stomp in rain puddles?

Still, that strong “yes” to outdoors everyday is coupled with another important message about warmth and children.   Our Roots and Shoots Teacher Miss Donna taught us well that a child who is kept warm can use his body’s finite energies to grow and develop.  So, we layer our children in natural, breathable fibers that allow that do the work of regulating a child’s body temperature.

Would you like to support your child’s growing body with a good layer of warmies?  Northern California mother Jessica (Kiya Rios) has just the perfect under layers for your child!  Our family has enjoyed Kiya’s wool leggins for years.  My son Bryles almost considers his woolies a second skin – he wears them under pants, as pajammas, as around the house lounge wear.  Sometimes I have to pry them off his legs for a good washing!

 Kiya’s Naturals

Jessica (Kiya) Rios of Kiya’s Naturals (formerly known to many as Batik Bum – a regular vendor at the Summerfield Winter Faire) is a mom-preneur who handcrafts woolen clothing.

“Wool is wonderful fabric for children. It keeps them at a even body temperature that is breathable and healthy. Wool even when damp will maintain a warm feeling,” shares Jessica.

Kiya’s Naturals offers tank tops, long sleeves, wool longies (under layer pants), leggings, hats, dresses, “hoodie” (outer) sweaters, skirts, and dresses.  Jessica uses recycled cashmere or merino wool silk blends to craft her clothing.  (Our family loves these earth friendly and well priced pieces!)
