Share Exchange celebrates “National Hanging Out Day” with clotheslines

On April 19, Santa Rosa’s Share Exchange joins forces with local company, to celebrate “National Hanging Out Day”, a nationally-recognized event that brings awareness to the energy conservation benefits of clotheslines and line drying.’s owner, Laura Shafer, will “hang out” damp laundry on a clothesline on 5th Street from 11 am til 4 pm, and will have an outdoor exhibit of her clothesline photos. A live performance of the original song “Line Dry” will be performed throughout the day. Free samples of locally made laundry detergent will be available, and the public is encouraged to bring a freshly laundered and damp shirt, sock or some pantaloons to hang on the provided clothesline.

At 6:30 pm, hosts a fundraiser to beneDrying for Freedom poster fit the Share Exchange. The night’s festivities includes the Sonoma County premiere of the movie “Drying for Freedom” which, as one might guess, is about clotheslines.’s Shafer comments that “the idea of a documentary on line drying may sound boring, but the movie actually gives a riveting spin- excuse the pun – on the topic of clotheslines and the politics of line drying.” Door prizes and other entertainment top off the night. Admission for the film and reception (dessert and drinks) is $10 advance RSVP, $15 at the door, and all proceeds benefit the Share Exchange and its Local Economy Institute.
